Finally back to normal at work AND over the crud that was keeping me crouped up for the past two weeks. Gonna wrap this up and move back to the regular stuff over the next two weeks.

The Henchman was played by Rafe Masters(1922-1986). Rafe played the heavy in several movies before being arrested in the early 50s for his ties to the American Communist Party. Released after 3 years he defected to “The Motherland” in 1956 and found work in the Soviet film industry. For almost 30 years he was a hero of communists worldwide, making beautiful films that touched on everyday life while extolling the virtues of the government. In 1985 he began seeking permission to return to the States and meet a Daughter and Grandson he didn’t know he had. His visa request was denied. In early 1986 he was assassinated by the KGB after some paperwork was misfiled.(Boris Vorobev, who had defected to West Germany after publishing several harsh criticisms of Soviet life, received the Nabokov Award for Contributions to the Advancement of Soviet Culture and Arts)

Gertle the Turtle(1842-1999) played the beast Garganza in what would become her only legitimate acting role. The lure of fame, and quick money, coupled with a growing addiction to mealworms drove her into the adult film industry in the 50′s. After her death, per her wishes, she was turned into a maraca and still tours with the rock group Plastic Goat.
Merton Fallowcord was left unable to grow facial hair after a boating accident. His Goatee is a repurposed Merkin.
Due to the large number of Sci-Fi films being made at this time there was a shortage of iguanas.The producers had to compromise their vision, but Yonejiro Saito credits this scene as a huge inspiration for Gamera.
No actual flies were harmed to make this scene. Records indicate that 14 dogs, 3 horses, a moose , and 14 flamingos did die during filming though none of those animals appear in the film.
