My last jab at the whole Chick-Fil-A fiasco, and this from a local perspective. One day last week the local paper did a front page story on a local food bank that wasn’t able to help as many people as it used to because people don’t donate as much. They showed the empty shelves and freezer and talked about the need of the people who use the service. The next day hundreds of good Christian people missed work, and flooded the local mall to gorge themselves at a fast food restaurant. The paper printed that story as well and I had to sit through a lot of these people flooding Facebook and Twitter about how they supported those who needed it, and believed in doing the “Christian thing”.

Having said that I want to say this: DON’T BOYCOTT CHICK-FIL-A!!!” If it seems weird to read that after today’s strip, then you haven’t been paying attention. I have, and I’m not going to let it just slide by anymore. The Cathy family are BILLIONAIRES, and could give 2 gelks about you buying chicken from them or not.Their Great-Grandchildren’s Great-Grandchildren will live better than all of us put together, even if every Chick-Fil-A in the world shuts down. The only people who are hurt by a boycott are the local owners and employees.
Now on to the toe stepping on part of the comments. A friend of mine recently made the comment “I couldn’t be a Christian, because I couldn’t hold that much hate in my heart.” That should break your heart, but then again if you ARE a Christian, then you hate no one. Take Matthew 5:21-22, You have heard that it was said to an older generation, ‘Do not murder,’ and ‘whoever murders will be subjected to judgment.’ But I say to you that anyone who is angry with a brother will be subjected to judgment. And whoever insults a brother will be brought before the council, and whoever says ‘Fool’ will be sent to fiery hell.
“But I’m not looking to murder anyone.”You’ll say, “I just don’t believe in Gay Marriage” Fine, but those people are your brothers, and sisters, for God created everyone of us IN HIS IMAGE. The words and feelings you have towards them in this life, will be held in judgement against you in the next. According to Jesus anyway, but what does he know, right? Leviticus is the only book that matters. Like Leviticus 19:18 ” Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.”
But you say “I need to take a stand and let people know I’m a Christian” Because reposting something on Facebook or Twitter is what it takes.I mean it’s so much easier that actually going into the world and doing good deeds or helping those in need right? Like Matthew 12:33 “Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.”
No the problem is best summed up by Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 6:1 “Be careful about not living righteously merely to be seen by people. Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in heaven” and Matthew 6:5-6 “Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you”
“But I can’t defy the preacher/my church/my upbringing. What would Jesus think?”
He’d think you were doing it right. The gospels are full of his defiance of the church, and authorities of the day in pursuit of what he knew to be right. So in conclusion, before you resend something on Facebook, or erect a huge cross or build a mega-church ask yourself if your doing it because you have religion, like the Pharisees, or Faith, like Jesus and the disciples?
