I just love that people will get up in arms and start petitions and boycotts over a fictional character being written by a religious extremist, but do nothing to help the wage slaves in sweatshops making 60 cents a day, and keep buying cars from a company founded by one of Hitler’s personal heroes. The worries about Orson Scott Card’s 2 issue Superman arc boil down to one of 2 things.
1.He will use Superman to push his ultra-conservative agenda.(Translation: He won’t be a professional, and respect the image of the character)
2.DC will not notice him doing this.(Translation: Nobody over there edits or proofreads anything. The creative teams run free like buffalo, without a care or responsibility)
Let it go. Don’t take the free comic. The publicity generated by the petitions and boycotts just gives hatemongers a larger audience to reach, and allows them to survive another day. From now on let’s just look at these people, laugh, and go solve a bigger problem. They don’t want to move forward with the rest of us, and we can’t force them. One day, my Great-grandchildren will head out to visit Philistine Land, where like the Amish these people will struggle to hold on to their primitive way of life.
(on a final note I can think of one more thing Jesus and Superman have in common….
It’s easier to believe in them, than to practice the ideals they teach and represent.)
